◆Biography of Dr. Ohn Mar Oo

  I am Ohn Mar Oo, lecturer from the Department of Library and Information Studies, University of Yangon, Myanmar. Although I’m a lecturer of teaching department, I worked at the University libraries from 1996 to 2001. Firstly, my sincere thanks go to the Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University (CSEAS), for giving me the chance as a visiting research scholar of CSEAS to compile a research, Bibliometric Study of PhD Dissertations Submitted to the Department of History, University of Yangon (2002-2007). And then, I would like to thank all staff member of CSEAS for their valuable supporting in doing my research work. I hope that this fellowship programme is invaluable for my academic life and research experience because I can gain foreign experience and more information for my department which has produced qualified librarians and teaching staff.

◆Introduction of Department of Library and Information Studies, University of Yangon (Myanmar)

  The Department of Library and Information Studies came into existence on part-time basis from June 1971 to 1997. At that time, the Department‘s name was Library Science. In 1997, it was re-structured as the 19th department of the University under the new name, “Library and Information Studies”. At the beginning, the department offers a two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies programme since 1971. The PhD programme started in 2008. In 2015-2016 academic year, the department accepted selectively excellent students as the undergraduate course. Now, the department offers under-graduate, post-graduate diploma, master, master of research and PhD programmes. At the present, Dr. Ni Win Zaw is  Professor, head of the department.
